A drum, a harbour and one delivery van.

Northlight began in 2016 as a market stall with a 1 kg sample roaster. The stall paid for a 12 kg drum, the drum paid for the unit at Harbour Works, and the van is still on its second clutch.

How we buy

Small lots, bought whole rather than by the sack, mostly through two importers we have worked with since the market days. We publish what we paid per kilogram on the shelf card next to each coffee. It is not a moral position, it is just easier than being asked.

How we roast

Every batch is logged — charge temperature, turning point, development time — and we keep the last three years of curves. If a bag tastes different from the one before it, we can usually tell you why by the end of the day.

Packaging

Kraft bags with a degassing valve, no foil liner. They are kerbside recyclable here; bring five back and the sixth bag is half price.
